Levi's Call: Georgia's Amber Alert

Named after 11 year old Levi Frady who, on October 22, 1997, was abducted, driven to a neighboring county, and brutally murdered.  His body was found the next day but law enforcement is still looking for his killer.

Modeled after the Amber Alert, Levi's Call is "designed to get the word out to the public via radio and television within minutes of a confirmed abduction."  The goal is to "locate a child and an abductor expeditiously before any harm comes to the child".

While Levi's Call has the best of intentions, it (like Amber Alert) does nothing to PREVENT your child from going missing.  It is designed to be 'reactive' instead of 'proactive'.

Here are the "Activation Criteria" for Levi's Call:

Before Levi's Call can be activated, the following "Alert Criteria" must be met:

- There must be a confirmed child abduction
- The circumstances surrounding the abduction must indicate the child is in imminent danger of harm or death
- The child must be 18 years of age or younger
- There must be enough descriptive information to believe that an immediate broadcast alert will help recover the child
- Request for the activation of the alert must be made as soon as possible after the abduction is reported (within four hours of the abduction is ideal)
- The case must be entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database

Activation will not be granted for:

- Non-custodial abductions where no danger to the child exists
- Runaways

Just like Amber Alert, the criteria disqualify most children from this service.  With Amber Alert, less than 1% of missing children quality and although we don't have a similar statistic for Levi's Call, we're certain it is probably nearly the same qualification percentage.  That is unfortunate because this public service can be invaluable in FINDING a missing child.  But that still doesn't address the PREVENTION issue.

Prevention is where Child Shield USA excels.  Once enrolled in Child Shield USA's Comprehensive Child Protection Program, parents can be assured they (and their children) will receive the most comprehensive prevention education available.  We have 18 years of real-life experience to prove it.  AND, if the unthinkable occurs -- your child goes missing (for whatever reason, Child Shield USA's only activation criteria is a missing child) -- Child Shield USA IMMEDIATELY engages their Emergency Response Services to FIND YOUR CHILD.
